Illinois SB0112 amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to increase penalties for aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer. The bill specifies that a first conviction results in a Class 4 felony, while a second or subsequent conviction is a Class 3 felony. If the fleeing driver causes bodily injury to a bystander or member of the public, the offense is a Class 3 felony. If the injury is to a pursuing peace officer, it escalates to a Class 2 felony, and to a Class 1 felony if the injury is great bodily harm or disablement.
