The Morrow Plots, established in 1876, are the nation's oldest continual agricultural research field, second only to England's Rothamsted Field. These plots, located at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, were initially ten half-acre fields designed to test how cropping methods affected soil health and productivity over time. The plots were named after Professor George Espy Morrow, the first dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES). The plots were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1968.
