The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates John P. Collins on his 90th birthday on May 7, 2025. Collins, born in Chicago in 1935, has a long history of service, including time as an altar boy, a patrol boy, and a part-time copy boy for the Chicago Sun-Times. He graduated from St. Mel Christian Brothers High School in 1953 and attended Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tennessee. Collins served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and later graduated from DePaul University on the GI Bill. He joined the Chicago Police Department in 1959, retiring after 35 years of service in 1994.
