Illinois HJRCA0017 proposes a constitutional amendment to change how judicial districts are organized for Supreme and Appellate Court judges. Until the 2032 general election, the state remains divided into five Judicial Districts. Starting with the 2032 election, the state will be divided into seven Judicial Districts for Supreme Court judges and five for Appellate Court judges. Each district must be compact, contiguous, and have a substantially equal population. The General Assembly must redistrict the Judicial Districts following each federal decennial census.
