The Illinois General Assembly urges the Office of the Architect of the Capitol to design and create a portrait of the late former State Representative and House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie. Currie, a trailblazer in State politics, improved the lives of countless Illinoisans and expanded opportunities for women. She was the first woman to hold the post of Majority Leader of the Illinois House and was known for her work on welfare reform, campaign finance reform, and criminal justice reform. Currie's portrait will hang in the State Capitol Building to inspire future generations.
