HB5226

Illinois HB5226 regulates the registration of tow trucks, requiring specific equipment configurations and plate surrender upon license revocation.

HB5226 amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to specify that only tow truck operators with a valid license or registration from the Illinois Commerce Commission can obtain registration plates. The bill mandates that light-duty tow trucks be equipped as self-loaders or flatbed trucks, medium-duty tow trucks as wreckers, flatbeds, self-loaders, or combination trucks, and heavy-duty tow trucks or tractors as wrecker trucks. If a license or registration is revoked, the operator must surrender the registration plates to the Secretary of State.
