Illinois HB5208, also known as the Zachary's Parent Protection Act, amends the Family Bereavement Leave Act to provide expanded bereavement leave for employees affected by domestic violence, sexual violence, and other crimes of violence. Employees can take up to 10 workweeks of unpaid leave if their employer has at least 50 employees, 6 workweeks if the employer has 15-49 employees, and 4 workweeks if the employer has 1-14 employees. The leave can be used for attending funerals, making arrangements, grieving, or seeking legal assistance related to the crime of violence.
