Extends eligibility for Illinois hospitals to be designated as Safety-Net Hospitals through 2028.
HB5185 amends the Illinois Public Aid Code to extend the eligibility period for hospitals to be designated as Safety-Net Hospitals. Hospitals that would have qualified for the rate years beginning October 1, 2011, or October 1, 2012, remain eligible through December 31, 2028. This extension applies to hospitals designated as federal rural referral centers as of October 1, 2020. Safety-Net Hospitals must meet specific criteria, including a Medicaid Inpatient Utilization Rate (MIUR) of at least 40% and a charity percent of at least 4%, or an MIUR of at least 50%.
