Illinois HB5141 expands sports wagering to include awards shows.
HB5141 amends the Sports Wagering Act to include awards shows, such as the Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards, and Academy Awards, as eligible for sports wagering. The bill defines "awards show" as any live competition or talent contest. It grants the Illinois Gaming Board rulemaking and emergency rulemaking powers to permit wagering on these shows. The Board must adopt rules within six months of the bill's effective date. The bill also amends the Illinois Administrative Procedure Act to facilitate these changes.
