HB5106

Illinois HB5106 amends the Criminal Code to classify the use of deepfakes in electronic communications with intent to harass as a form of harassment.

Illinois HB5106 amends the Criminal Code of 2012 by adding a new provision that defines "deepfake" as a manipulated image, audio, or video created using machine learning or computational techniques to falsely depict an individual. The bill also updates the definition of harassment through electronic communications to include the transmission of deepfakes with intent to harass. This change aims to address the misuse of deepfake technology in causing emotional distress.
