Amends the Illinois Civil Rights Act to prohibit disability discrimination in programs receiving federal or state financial assistance.
The Illinois Civil Rights Act of 2003 is amended to prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities in programs receiving federal or state financial assistance. It allows aggrieved parties to bring civil lawsuits in federal or state courts within two years of the violation. The court may award actual damages and provide relief such as injunctions. State agencies with existing mechanisms for enforcing federal Section 504 rights can also enforce this Act. The Attorney General can initiate civil actions for patterns of discrimination.
