HB4961

Amends the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act to address relocation petitions and immigration-status coercion.

This bill amends the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act to modify relocation petitions and address immigration-status coercion. It defines "immigration-status coercion" as conduct by a parent intended to control or intimidate the other parent by withholding immigration documents, refusing to provide information necessary to file or renew lawful status, or threatening to report or cause reporting to immigration authorities. The bill requires a parent seeking to relocate with a child to file a petition and provide written notice to the other parent.
