HB4935

Illinois HB4935 establishes hiring standards for firefighters in municipalities, including examinations, preferences, and age limits.

Illinois HB4935 amends the Illinois Municipal Code to set standards for hiring firefighters in municipalities. It mandates that all original appointments to a full-time fire department be made from a register of eligibles. Applicants must meet performance standards, including passing a written examination and a physical ability test. Preferences are given for veterans, fire cadets, educational qualifications, and experience. The bill also outlines age limits, disqualifying those under 21 and over 35 unless they have prior firefighting experience.
