HB4888

Illinois HB4888 amends the Local Records Act to require agencies to submit lists of public records for disposal and retention.

HB4888 amends the Local Records Act to mandate that the head of each agency submit lists of public records to the appropriate Commission. These lists should detail records not needed for current business and propose retention periods. The Commission will determine which records lack administrative, legal, research, or historical value and should be disposed of. The bill also outlines procedures for the physical destruction or other disposition of public records, management and preservation of electronically generated records, and standards for reproduction of public records.
