Illinois HB4835 mandates counties, townships, and municipalities to allow adaptive reuse of existing commercial buildings for residential purposes by.

HB4835 amends the Counties Code, the Township Code, and the Illinois Municipal Code to require counties, townships, and municipalities to allow adaptive reuse of existing commercial buildings for residential purposes by ordinance no later than January 1, 2027. Adaptive reuse policies must allow the construction of micro units, provided they do not exceed minimum standards set by the International Building Code.
