Illinois HB4833 mandates divestment from companies profiting from incarceration or detention.
HB4833 requires the Illinois Investment Policy Board to identify and list for-profit companies that contract to shelter incarcerated or detained persons. Retirement systems must divest from these companies. The bill also mandates divestment from companies boycotting Israel, those profiting from migrant child detention, Iran-restricted companies, Sudan-restricted companies, and entities subject to Russian Harmful Foreign Activities Sanctions. Local governments with populations over 500,000 are prohibited from investing in companies sheltering incarcerated or detained persons.
