HB4748

Illinois HB4748 amends the Animal Welfare Act to require public access to view impounded animals at shelters.

HB4748 amends the Animal Welfare Act to mandate that animal shelters allow public viewing of impounded animals during regular hours, except during emergencies. It requires shelters to scan animals for microchips and other identification methods within 24 hours of intake. If an owner is identified, the animal must be transferred to the local animal control for redemption. If no owner is found, the shelter must hold the animal for a specified period before adoption, transfer, or euthanasia, and notify the owner.
