HB4713 creates an introductory computer science endorsement for Illinois educators.

HB4713 amends the Illinois School Code to establish an introductory computer science endorsement for educators. This endorsement allows licensed teachers to teach introductory computer science courses in grades 5 through 12. The endorsement requires no more than 8 credit hours of graduate-level preparation, including instruction in computer science concepts and pedagogy. Educators can substitute a one-week professional development program for 4 credit hours of the required graduate-level preparation.
