Introduced Text

Illinois HB4711 mandates provenance data for synthetic content generated by AI tools.

HB4711, the Provenance Data Requirements Act, requires generative artificial intelligence tool providers to apply provenance data to synthetic content they generate. It defines "provenance data" as information about the origin and modifications of content, including whether it is synthetic. The Act also mandates that large online platforms retain and make available provenance data for content posted on their platforms. Additionally, manufacturers of capture devices must enable users to include provenance data in captured content.
