Illinois HB4697 mandates active-transportation safety training for public and nonpublic school students in kindergarten through grade 8.

HB4697 amends the School Code to require active-transportation safety training for students in kindergarten through grade 8. Public schools must provide training by the end of the third week of school for those enrolled in kindergarten through grade 3, and by the end of the sixth week for those enrolled later. Nonpublic schools must provide training for students in kindergarten through grade 8. Training must include pedestrian safety, bicycle safety, and other relevant topics. The Secretary of Transportation must maintain a collection of training materials.
