Illinois HB4689 creates the Northeastern Illinois Water Governance Advisory Committee within the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. The Committee will assess water needs, risks, and infrastructure adequacy in Northeastern Illinois, and submit a report by May 31, 2027. The report will include projected water use needs through 2075, adequacy of current water sources, risks to water security, existing data on water use, and recommendations for improving water quality, security, and affordability. The Committee will dissolve on July 1, 2027.
