HB4584

DHS-DEMENTIA TRAINING

Final Passage·5/19/26

HB4584 requires dementia training for direct service workers in Illinois' Home Services Program.

HB4584 amends the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities Act to mandate dementia training for direct service workers in Illinois' Home Services Program. These workers must complete at least 2 hours of training on Alzheimer's disease, safety risks, and communication and behavior at the start of their employment. Annual continuing education must also include dementia training. The Department of Human Services must provide contractors with dementia training curriculum. If other laws or rules impose more rigorous dementia training, those requirements apply.
