The Illinois Low Income Broadband Assistance Program Act creates a program to ensure affordable broadband access for low-income families. Families with income at or below 135% of the federal poverty level are eligible for free broadband service. Those with income above 135% but no greater than 150% of the federal poverty level, or who participate in specified assistance programs, are eligible for a monthly $9.95 credit for broadband services. The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity coordinates with local administrative agencies to determine eligibility.
