Illinois HB4553 mandates criminal history checks for interscholastic athletic officials.

HB4553 amends the Interscholastic Athletic Organization Act to require associations or entities promoting interscholastic athletics to mandate fingerprint-based criminal history checks for applicants. These checks include the Statewide Sex Offender Database and the Statewide Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Database. Pending full clearance, applicants must be supervised by a cleared individual. The Illinois State Police will perform the checks, and applicants will be charged a fee. The law takes effect July 1, 2027.
