Illinois HB4516 regulates portable solar generation devices, exempting them from certain requirements and liability for electricity providers.

HB4516 amends the Public Utilities Act to address portable solar generation devices. These devices, which must meet specific criteria, are exempt from net electricity metering and interconnection requirements. Customers using these devices are not required to obtain approval, pay fees, or install additional equipment. Electricity providers are also shielded from liability for any damage or injury caused by these devices. The Act takes effect June 1, 2026.
