HB4459

LOCAL GOVT OPEN BURN PERMIT

Introduced·1/15/26
Introduced Text

Establishes requirements for local government open burn permits in Illinois.

The Local Government Open Burn Permit Act requires individuals to obtain a local government open burn permit from the municipality or county where the burn is taking place, in addition to any applicable open burn permit from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. It mandates that every county and municipality create an online platform with a permit application form, a list of no burn days, and a reporting mechanism for open burns without proper permits. Municipalities and counties may charge up to $5 per permit, with proceeds used for fire protection purposes.
