HB4428 requires circuit clerks to text defendants reminders of court hearings.
HB4428 amends the Clerks of Courts Act to establish a court reminder program. The circuit clerk must text defendants charged with a violation of the Criminal Code of 2012 or the Illinois Vehicle Code at least two reminders before each court appearance, with one reminder the day before. For virtual court appearances, the final reminder must include a link. The clerk must maintain copies of the text content and delivery receipts. The Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts can adopt rules to implement the Act.
