Illinois HB4399 mandates the use of biodiesel blends in diesel vehicles owned or operated by the state, counties, school districts, and transit.

HB4399 amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to require diesel vehicles owned or operated by the state, counties, school districts, and transit agencies to use biodiesel blends starting July 1, 2027. The required biodiesel blend must contain 19%, unless the engine is designed or retrofitted to operate on a higher percentage of biodiesel or on ultra low sulfur fuel. The Secretary of Transportation will adopt rules for implementing this requirement.
