Illinois HB4309 amends the State Commemorative Dates Act to establish POW/MIA Recognition Day. The Governor is required to annually designate the third Friday of September as a day to honor and remember Illinois residents who were prisoners of war or missing in action while serving in the U.S. armed forces. The Governor is also asked to encourage solemn contemplation on the plight of these service members and their families. The act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
