Illinois HB4309 amends the State Commemorative Dates Act to require the Governor to annually designate the third Friday of September as POW/MIA Recognition Day. This day honors and remembers Illinois residents who were prisoners of war or missing in action while serving in the U.S. armed forces. The Governor is also asked to encourage solemn contemplation on the challenges faced by these service members and their families. Effective immediately upon becoming law.
