HB4255 amends the Criminal Code of 2012 to expand the prohibition on using elephants in traveling animal acts to include other covered animals. Covered animals now include elephants, big cats (felidae), non-human primates, and bears (ursidae). The law defines "traveling animal act" as any performance where animals are transported to, from, or between locations for the purpose of a performance in a mobile or traveling animal housing facility. The provisions of this amendatory Act are in addition to, and not in lieu of, any other laws protecting animal welfare. Effective July 1, 2026.
