Katie's Law, named after Katie Abraham who was killed by an illegal immigrant, requires the Illinois State Police to deport noncitizens convicted of crimes resulting in death or great bodily harm. Deportation must occur after the noncitizen's release from incarceration, unless the country of origin cannot be determined, in which case deportation occurs to the country of entry. The Illinois State Police are granted emergency rulemaking powers to implement these changes.
