HB4236 allows individuals convicted of a felony to run for and hold elective public office after completing their sentence.

HB4236 amends the Unified Code of Corrections to allow individuals convicted of a felony to be eligible for nomination and election to elective public office after completing their sentence, parole, or mandatory supervised release. This change applies to various licenses and does not affect the right to collaterally attack a conviction. The bill also makes conforming changes to the Election Code and the Illinois Municipal Code.
