HB4233 amends the Hospital Licensing Act and the University of Illinois Hospital Act to prohibit emergency departments from using health care kiosks to assess or determine a patient's medical state, prioritize injuries or illness, or triage patients. These kiosks, defined as self-service terminals with touchscreens or keyboards, can only be used for data entry of personal identifying and billing information. The changes take effect January 1, 2027.
