Illinois HB4233 prohibits emergency department kiosks from assessing patient medical state or triage, but allows them for data entry.
Illinois HB4233 amends the University of Illinois Hospital Act and the Hospital Licensing Act to regulate the use of health care kiosks in emergency departments. These kiosks, defined as self-service terminals for data entry, cannot assess a patient's medical state, determine injury or illness priority, or triage patients. They are permitted for entering personal and billing information instead of paper forms. The changes take effect January 1, 2027.
