HB3816 mandates microfiber filtration systems in washing machines sold in Illinois starting January 1, 2030.

HB3816 amends the Environmental Protection Act to require that, starting January 1, 2030, all new washing machines sold in Illinois for residential, commercial, or state use must include a microfiber filtration system with a mesh size of no more than 100 micrometers. Additionally, these washing machines must bear a label stating, "Notice: This washing machine contains a filter to capture microfibers.
