Introduced·2/7/25
Introduced Text

Illinois HB3589 mandates annual medical evaluations for student athletes in grades 9-12 before participating in interscholastic activities.

Illinois HB3589 amends the School Code to require students in grades 9 through 12 to pass a medical evaluation annually and, if applicable, receive an electrocardiogram before participating in interscholastic athletic activities. The evaluation must be conducted by a licensed health care professional or a physician. The evaluation form must follow American Heart Association recommendations for cardiovascular screening. A waiver is available if a parent or guardian objects based on religious beliefs. The results of the medical evaluation must be provided to the student's school.
