Illinois HB2978 establishes unpaid leave for employees with children in neonatal intensive care units.

Illinois HB2978, known as the Family Neonatal Intensive Care Leave Act, allows employees to take unpaid leave when their child is in a neonatal intensive care unit. Employees of employers with 16 to 50 employees can take up to 10 days of leave, while those with 51 or more employees can take up to 20 days. Leave can be taken continually or intermittently. Employers can require reasonable verification of the child's stay but cannot request confidential information. Employers are prohibited from taking adverse actions against employees exercising their rights under this Act.
