These sites will offer a safe, hygienic space for individuals to consume pre-obtained drugs and access harm reduction services, treatment, and recovery programs. The pilot program targets high-risk and socially marginalized drug users in municipalities with a population greater than 2.5 million. OPSs must abide by principles such as community involvement, equity, and harm reduction. Staffing includes trained peers with lived experience and other necessary professionals.
