The Inclusive History Act requires Illinois schools to teach history from multiple perspectives, including those of marginalized groups. Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, history instruction will be suspended, replaced by civics education. The Act establishes the Inclusive History Commission to develop inclusive history standards. It mandates studies on Native American, Asian American, Black, and women's history, as well as the Holocaust and disability history. Effective immediately, schools must include a unit on the Native American genocide in North America.
