Illinois HB2911 establishes an automatic voter registration program using driver's license and ID applications.
HB2911 amends the Illinois Election Code to create an automatic voter registration program. When applicants for driver's licenses or state IDs present documentation establishing U.S. citizenship, their applications will also serve as voter registration applications. The Office of the Secretary of State will transmit the applicants' information to the State Board of Elections for voter registration. The bill also requires the State Board of Elections to cross-reference voter registration data against the National Change of Address database twice a year to update voter registrations.
