Illinois HB2885 amends the Freedom of Information Act to provide immunity from liability for public bodies and their employees when disclosing.

HB2885 amends the Freedom of Information Act to ensure that public bodies and their employees are immune from liability when they disclose records in accordance with an opinion from the Attorney General. This immunity extends to any penalties under the Act. The bill also allows the Attorney General to issue advisory opinions to public bodies regarding compliance with the Act. The Public Access Counselor can review requests for access to public records and issue binding opinions, which are subject to administrative review.
