Illinois HB2824 amends pension benefits for widows of Chicago police officers and firefighters.
HB2824 modifies the Illinois Pension Code to increase the widow's annuity for widows of Chicago police officers and firefighters. For widows of police officers who retire on or after January 1, 1986, and subsequently die while receiving a retirement annuity, or who die on or after January 1, 1991, the annuity is set at 66 2/3% of the retirement annuity. For widows of firefighters who die on or after June 30, 1984, the annuity is the greater of 30% of the salary attached to the rank of first class firefighter or 66 2/3% of the retirement annuity.
