Illinois HB2736 amends the Motor Fuel Tax Law to exempt marine fuel from tax starting July 1, 2025.

HB2736 amends the Motor Fuel Tax Law by exempting marine fuel from the tax imposed under the Act starting July 1, 2025. The bill defines "marine fuel" as motor fuel specially formulated for watercraft propulsion. The tax on motor fuel for vehicles using diesel, liquefied natural gas, or propane is adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index. The bill also imposes fines for selling 1-K kerosene without paying the tax and requires retailers to post notices about tax suspensions. The Act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
