Illinois HB2534 amends the Genetic Information Privacy Act to restrict insurers from using genetic information for life insurance policies.

Illinois HB2534 amends the Genetic Information Privacy Act to prohibit insurers from seeking or using genetic information for life insurance policies. Insurers may only consider genetic test results if voluntarily submitted by the individual and are favorable. Insurers cannot use genetic information for underwriting purposes, including eligibility, benefits, premium computation, or pre-existing condition exclusions. Insurers also cannot release genetic information to third parties.
