Illinois HB2531 amends the Grocery Initiative Act to expand access to healthy foods in food deserts.

HB2531 amends the Grocery Initiative Act to allow Grocery Initiative Grants to be used for equipment upgrades needed to accept payment from the Women, Infant, Children's program (WIC). The bill expands the definition of "grocery store" to include certain meat, fruit and vegetable, and fish and seafood retailers. It also modifies the criteria for designating food deserts, including poverty metrics and distance from grocery stores.
