Expands the definition of "petitioner" in the Firearms Restraining Order Act to include certain health care professionals.
The Firearms Restraining Order Act is amended to include in the definition of "petitioner" any of the following health care professionals who have treated the person against whom the order is sought in the 6 months immediately preceding the filing of the petition: a physician, psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, licensed clinical social worker, advanced practice registered nurse, or licensed marriage and family therapist. This change aims to allow more health care professionals to petition for a firearms restraining order.
