TRAFFIC SIGNAL PREEMPT DEVICE

Allows emergency vehicles to use traffic signal preemption devices during emergencies.

This bill amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to allow certain emergency vehicles to install and operate traffic control signal preemption devices during bona fide emergencies. These devices emit a signal that changes traffic lights to green or extends green lights. Eligible vehicles include police, fire, ambulances, organ transport vehicles, and snow removal vehicles, among others. Violation of the rules is a Class A misdemeanor.
