Illinois HB2434 provides support for bereaved mothers whose children were murdered, including mental health services, paid leave, and relocation.

Illinois HB2434, also known as the Compassionate Support for Bereaved Mothers Act or the Heal Your Heart Act, offers comprehensive support to mothers who have lost their children due to murder. The Act entitles bereaved mothers to free mental health counseling and psychiatric services for up to one year following their child's death. Additionally, it provides a minimum of 12 weeks of paid disability leave, with the possibility of extension based on medical necessity. Bereaved mothers living in subsidized housing can also request relocation to a safer unit if they feel threatened or unsafe.
