Illinois HB1866 amends the Emergency Telephone System Act to update definitions and provisions related to 9-1-1 services. It mandates that all 9-1-1 systems in Illinois, except in municipalities with a population over 500,000, must provide Next Generation 9-1-1 service by January 1, 2027. Municipalities with a population over 500,000 must provide this service by January 1, 2026. The bill also regulates surcharges on telecommunications services, limiting the monthly surcharge to $5.00 per network connection until December 31, 2028, and $2.50 thereafter.
