HB1797 amends the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act to allow law enforcement personnel to investigate reports of suspected child abuse or neglect concurrently with the Department of Children and Family Services. The Department must adopt rules allowing this concurrent investigation, regardless of whether the Department deems a report to be "indicated," "unfounded," or "undetermined." The bill also mandates that reports of suspected child abuse or neglect be made immediately by telephone to the central register or in person through the nearest Department office.
