The Language Equality Acquisition for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind Children Act establishes a language assessment program for children aged birth to 5 years who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf-blind. The State Board of Education, in cooperation with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission and the Department of Human Services, will select tools or assessments for educators to assess language and literacy development. The program aims to end language deprivation, augment access to American Sign Language and English, and enhance preschool and kindergarten readiness.
